The first stage works of the Boğaçay Project which is one of the biggest projects in Turkey has been completed. The first report was completed after the works which had been carried out with the world-famous companies and academicians. According to the decisions taken in the works which were discussed with all aspects of the project; first of all, engineering solutions will be realized with infrastructure works in Boğaçay basin and near abroad, and then a covered barrier which prevents the mixing of the river water and the sea water will be made.
The first stage works of the Boğaçay Project which was called as the second crazy project of Turkey and planned by Antalya Metropolitan Municipality has been completed. Under the control of ASAT General Directorate, world-famous water engineering firms and academicians consulted to the project works.
Last week after the completion the first stage works, Boğaçay Project was discussed with all its aspects by making a meeting with Metropolitan Municipality Menderes TÜrel, Metropolitan Planning Advisor Feridun Uyar, Metropolitan Municipality Secretary General Birol Ekici, ANTEPE Chairman of the Executive Board Bahadır Yantaç, ASAT General Manager Faruk Karaçay and the project managers.
PROJECT WAS DISCUSSED WITH ALL ITS ASPECTS
At the meeting, by taking account of the whole area of 927 square kilometers in boundaries of Boğaçay catchment area, solution offers were produced for all kind of disaster and infrastructure risks in the entire basin. Possible problems in the basin such as flood protection, the risk of salinity of underground water and sedimentation have been analyzed in detail.
DISASTER MODELING SOFTWARES HAS BEEN USED
By using disaster modeling softwares, prepared models have been observed relating to scenarios of flood protection, occurrence of salinity in ground water and sedimentation, and the results has been observed. Besides, at the meeting, in first stage works, all the problems and their engineering solutions relating to top structures envisaged for the project have been discussed.
VERY IMPORTANT DECISIONS WERE MADE
At the meeting as a result of investigations and evaluations, primarily it was decided to realize infrastructure working and engineering solutions around Boğaçay basin and near abroad to make the Project. In this way, the risks of disaster in the basin will be completely solved.
ECOLOGICAL BALANCE WILL BE SUPPORTED
According to the other decisions which were taken at the meeting, storage and retarding constructions will be built to control of sedimentation and overflow on Boğaçay river and arms depending on the river bed in the basin. Ecological balance will be supported by constituting new wetlands in order to provide sustainability in the Boğaçay river basin. Within the context of the project, new sources will be created in order to use for increasing quality of municipal life, tourism alternatives and public investment.
PROJECT WILL BE PRESENTED TO NGOs
Boğaçay Flood Protection and 1st Stage Superstructure Avant Project?s final presentation will be completed by September and presented to trade associations, NGOs and municipal Dynamics for their opinion. At the end of these meetings every kind of opinion, suggestion, criticism and evaluation will be considered, and final project about flood protection will be submitted to General Directorate of State Hydraulic Works for the approval.
FIRST STAGE WILL BE STARTED AT 2016
With the approval of General Directorate of State Hydraulic Works, the construction of approximately 2 kilometers from the sea onto land, which is the 1st stage of work, is scheduled to start in 2016. Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Menderes TÜrel said that they aimed to complete the 1st stage of the project during his term of office.
